Compared to the bustling north of India, Kerala is a tranquil oasis of backwaters, sleepy villages and delicious food, epitomised by its wonderfully slow pace of life. It’s a hugely diverse region, offering a great deal without the long drives that often typify exploring northern India. A private cruise through the backwaters past idyllic traditional villages is always a real highlight. It’s also worth visiting the bustling city of Cochin, the hub of the spice trade, and filled with echoes of its Dutch, Portuguese and British colonial influences. A drive into the hills will take you to the dramatic scenery of Munnar and the wildlife at Thekkady. No trip to Kerala is complete without a beach stay, with Mararikulam, Kovalam and Neeleshwar, all excellent options.
Take a visual journey through what we consider to be some of Kerala’s unmissable highlights.
